Video: USA Beach Volleyballer Belts Out ‘Baba Booey’ on Live TV

The gold medal for Booey bombing was just won by beach volleyball star Phil Dalhausser. While being interviewed on live television last week, the Olympian enthusiastically yelled out “Baba Booey” to the crowd in Rio and everyone watching at home. The sports world has seen a surge in on-air Stern Show shout-outs recently. Earlier in August, San Diego Padres announcer Mark Grant gave outfielder Jabari Blash a “Hit ‘Em With the Hein” after he homered for the first time in the major leagues. In July, the Stern Show was able to get a special message of encouragement to “Dean Gulberry” at Yankees Stadium. Skydiver Luke Aikins even made history by jumping out of a plane without a parachute and yelling “Baba Booey” afterwards.

Dalhausser and his partner Nicholas Lucena will take on the hometown Brazilian team in a quarterfinal match on Monday. Should they get another victory, we’ll be listening carefully to see if we hear another Olympic “Baba Booey.”
