Audience Flees Sundance Screenings of ‘Kuso,’ a.k.a. the ‘Grossest Movie Ever Made’
Festival film has everything from stabbed penises, to sex with boils, to literal fountains of feces

Multiple outlets are reporting audience walk-outs during screenings of the movie “Kuso” at this year’s Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. Reviews for the film are also trickling in, and at least one critic has flatly declared it to be the “grossest movie ever made.”
Directed by music producer, DJ, and and first-time film director Flying Lotus, “Kuso” is set in an earthquake-ravaged Los Angeles wasteland. Critics thus far have described the film as being generally thin on plot but heavy on gore. But it’s the audience reactions that have generated the most headlines. According to Variety, audience members at one “Kuso” screening began fleeing after only “10 minutes of boil-bursting, pus-oozing revulsion.”
In his review for Verge, published under the headline “‘Kuso’ is the grossest movie ever made,” Chris Plante described several of the gritty horrors moviegoers were asked to endure, including an “erect penis being violently gored by a long steel rod,” a “diarrhetic fountain” spewing literal shit, and a man having sex with a talking boil on a lady’s neck. Of the latter scenario, Chris wrote: “We see it in close-up to completion, and then the boil keeps talking, even though its mouth is full of semen.”
Like Variety, Verge reported several audience members left the screening early. “The walk-outs continued in a consistent stream up to the final scene,” Chris wrote.

“Kuso’s” final Sundance screening is Friday at 6 p.m. at the Broadway Centre Cinema 6 in Park City, Utah.
