Robert Downey Jr.: No Regrets Over Walking Out on Interview
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" star talks to Howard about his walk out, his ex, and his new movie
This isn’t about your creepy, dark agenda …
“Now what happened when you walked out of the interview? You’re getting a ton of f*cking press for walking out,” Howard segued halfway into Robert Downey Jr.’s Tuesday morning visit. “Are you glad about that or do you wish you just stayed and dealt with this f*cking guy?”
As you may have seen in the now-viral clip, Channel 4 News’ Krishnan Guru-Murthy used an Avengers promotional interview to try to dig into RDJ’s past before the actor walked out on him.
“I just wish I had left sooner,” the Age of Ultron star stated matter-of-factly.
Addressing the British TV presenter directly, Downey Jr. told him: “This has nothing to do with your creepy, dark agenda … all of a sudden I’m feeling ashamed and obligated to accommodate your weirdo shit.” Considering he was promoting a superhero movie that targets a kid-friendly audience, the actor said he found the line of questioning to be inappropriate.
Robin said that everybody seems to be on his side for walking out, especially considering Guru-Murthy’s track record for pulling the same stunt like what he did to Quentin Tarantino, who instead decided to stay put and light up the murky interviewer for his dirty tactics.
Listen to Robert in his own words discussing the incident on the Howard Stern Show
“You’re weirding me out; you’re a bottom-feeding muckraker,” Downey Jr., continued in response to the Channel 4 News interviewer, explaining “there’s an assumption that because you’ve sat down there, you’re going to be scrutinized like you’re a kiddie-fiddler who’s running for mayor.”
But rest assured, RDJ doesn’t plan on letting it happen again. “What I have to do in the future is give myself permission to say ‘That is more than likely a syphilitic parasite and I need to distance myself from this clown’. Otherwise I’m probably going to put hands on somebody and then there’s a real story.”
Howard wondered if RDJ’s Wing Chun background would allow him to kick someone’s ass, but Robert assured him that he doesn’t use it for anything other than fitness.
