THIS IS A LIFE?

Jon played a clip of a game called “This is a Life?” which was played on “The Channel 9 Show.” In it, the segment’s host, Art Fleming, offered audio clips of people Howard knew when he was growing up in Roosevelt and Howard then had to try to identify who they were. Howard went on to successfully name one of his neighbors, before going on to accuse the next speaker and his former gym teacher, Mr. Chestnut, of not preventing his classmates from throwing a garbage can on his head. Howard then correctly picked out members of his sixth-grade band, The Electric Comic Book, who, along with Howard, performed an impromptu version of “Psychedelic Bee,” a song Howard had written as a kid. The next person brought on the show was Howard’s former girlfriend, Ann. Gary noted that Ann was so hard to find he had to hire a private investigator to find. Gary added that, although Howard had claimed Ann was the most attractive girl at Boston University, no one who saw her the day she appeared on “This is a Life?” thought he was being truthful. Howard pointed out he and Ann dated for two weeks, but she stopped seeing him without even informing him she was breaking off their relationship. Ann added she checked her diary about her time with Howard as soon as she was asked to come on the show and reported she read he was one of the “sweetest” men she ever met. Art then introduced Hank, the program director at B.U.’s radio station while Howard was in school and who also had the distinction of being the first person to fire Howard from a radio job. Dee Snyder also participated in the game and, when he came onstage, discussed how he helped Howard develop the clothing style he had taken to wearing in that era.
