VIDEO: Metallica Teases New San Francisco Symphony Team Up ‘S&M 2’
Stern Show veterans’ new 2-CD, 4-LP set arrives Aug. 28
August 3, 2020Heavy metal fans who enjoy headbanging to a full orchestra are in luck—Metallica has another symphonic release on the horizon.
The metal legends and repeat Stern Show guests released a teaser for their new concert experience “S&M 2,” arriving later this month. The two-CD, four-LP set once again sees the band teaming up with the San Francisco Symphony in re-edited, remixed, and remastered versions of their Sept. 6 and Sept. 8, 2019 performances at San Francisco’s Chase Center.
“S&M 2” is James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, and Robert Trujillo’s second go-round with the symphony, following their hit 1999 album “S&M.” The new 20-song concert set features songs from every one of Metallica’s studio albums and will be available in a variety of formats, including digital, Blu-ray, and a limited-edition Deluxe Box will containing CDs, vinyl, and even sheet music, a poster, and guitar picks.
In addition to a trailer for the release (above), the band recently teased the concert on its YouTube channel with symphonic performances of “All Within My Hands” and “Nothing Else Matters” (below).
Metallica has memorably joined the Stern Show multiple times over the years, most recently in 2016 when the fearsome foursome rocked the studio with live performances of “Sad but True,” “Hardwired,” and “Master of Puppets.” Listen to their full sit-down with Howard here.
