VIDEO: Sacha Baron Cohen Takes the Witness Stand in Trailer for Aaron Sorkin's 'The Trial of the Chicago 7'

Aaron Sorkin turns his attention to the contentious 1968 Democratic National Convention in the official trailer for “The Trial of the Chicago 7,” arriving Oct. 16.

Repeat Stern Show guest Sacha Baron Cohen stars in the historical drama as Abbie Hoffman, a social activist who along with Tom Hayden (Eddie Redmayne), Jerry Rubin (Jeremy Strong), Bobby Seale (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), and several others was arrested for conspiracy and inciting to riot during Chicago’s ’68 protests.

The trailer cuts between tension in the streets, as activists prepare for a violent clash with the National Guard, and drama in the courtroom, as prosecutor Richard Schultz (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) interrogates Hoffman on the witness stand.

“When you came to Chicago were you hoping to draw the police into a confrontation?” Gordon-Levitt’s character presses (above).

“Give me a moment, would you friend? I’ve never been on trial for my thoughts before,” Sacha responds.

Written and directed by Sorkin (“The Social Network”), the film also stars Frank Langella, Mark Rylance, Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch, and Alex Sharp.
