AUDIO: Foo Fighters Release Contemplative New Ballad ‘Waiting on a War’
Track hails from Dave Grohl and company’s February album “Medicine at Midnight”

Foo Fighters are waiting so their fans won’t have to.
The Grammy-winning rock act just released “Waiting on a War,” a thoughtful new track from their February album “Medicine at Midnight.”
The slow-building, anti-war tune (above) starts off like an acoustic ballad before eventually erupting into an electric-guitar fueled finale. According to frontman Dave Grohl, the song’s lyrics were inspired by a heartbreaking conversation with his own daughter.
“She turned to me and asked, ‘Daddy, is there going to be a war?’” the band explained in a tweet. “My heart sank as I realized that she was now living under the same dark cloud that I had felt 40 years ago. I wrote ‘Waiting on a War’ that day. Every day waiting for the sky to fall. Is there more to this than that? Is there more to this than just waiting on a war? Because I need more. We all do. This song was written for my daughter, Harper, who deserves a future, just as every child does.”
“Waiting on a War” is the third track released from “Medicine at Midnight,” the band’s 10th studio album. It follows “No Son of Mine” and “Shame Shame.”
Grohl and company have appeared on the Stern Show multiple times over the years. In 2000, they memorably wowed Howard and his listeners with an acoustic performance of “Monkey Wrench,” the hit single off their multi-platinum sophomore album “The Colour and the Shape.” Check out the Foo Fighters’ performance (below).
