Could Howard and Bruce Springsteen Get an Emmy Together?
A win for their 2022 HBO special would garner the Boss a rare EGOT
Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band had a homecoming at New York City’s Madison Square Garden over the weekend and Gary Dell’Abate, who was in the audience, gave a glowing review of the recent Stern Show guest. “It was one of the best shows that I’ve seen in a while,” the executive producer and Springsteen superfan told Howard Monday morning. “He comes out in the audience, he runs around, it’s like when you look at him you go, ‘Holy shit he’s 73, he’s definitely in better shape than me.’”
“I think I personally had the best Bruce Springsteen concert ever,” Howard said of being in the studio with the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer as he performed some of his biggest hits. “I sat about a foot away from him and he sang to me. I mean, how do you top that one?”
The conversation brought up the question if Howard’s HBO special of the Springsteen interview would be up for an Emmy when the 2023 nominations are announced later this year. As Gary pointed out, a win would be historic. “Springsteen has a bunch of Grammys, an Oscar, and a Tony, so the Emmy is the only thing missing from him being an EGOT and you can help him get that,” he told Howard of the rare feat.
If nominated, Howard insisted he would go to the ceremony. “I would go to that because I’d have to go with Bruce — he’d be my date … and we’d accept together,” he joked before praising his guest. “It really is Bruce’s Emmy, he was just fucking phenomenal when we were talking to him … I just sat there and cried.”
