Comedians sit down with Howard ahead of Thursday's live Peacock special, “New York After Dark”
It was a two-for-one deal for the ages Monday morning as “Saturday Night Live” superstars Michael Che and Colin Jost joined the Stern Show together ahead of their hotly anticipated live comedy special “New York After Dark,” streaming Thursday on Peacock.
The dynamic duo’s wide-ranging conversation with Howard offered a fascinating look behind the scenes at Studio 8H and touched upon everything from their upcoming 10th season anchoring “Weekend Update” to the depths of Michael and Colin’s off-camera friendship — including just how often Jost as his wife Scarlett Johansson invite Che over for dinner.
“I can’t bring the girls that I date to Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson’s house, I’m sorry. I don’t need Scarlett calling my phone saying I think your date stole my silverware,” Che joked before adding, “I did meet a girl one time that was really cool, but her name was also Scarlett, and I was like … I don’t want to date ‘Other Scarlett.’”
The comedians also spoke about the unexpected birthday gift Jost received from Jim Carrey, who should replace “SNL” chief Lorne Michaels should he ever retire, and their picks for the greatest “Weekend Update” anchor of all time, among other topics, as well as whether they’d be able to keep the gig going if one of them suddenly retired.
“No,” Che told Howard.
“No,” Jost agreed.
“In a heartbeat he would,” Che joked. “He’s lying through his teeth.”
“Okay, I’ll do three [more] years,” Jost laughed.
