Jon Hein Wonders If Gary Dell’Abate Was Bad Luck at the Michigan Football Game

When staffer and University of Michigan alumnus Jon Hein invited colleagues Rahsaan Rogers and Gary Dell’Abate to watch the school’s powerhouse football team at home in Ann Arbor, the guys jumped at the chance.
“I was supportive … I bought a yellow sweatshirt and a yellow hat — I completely drank the Kool-Aid,” Gary recalled on Monday.
Despite the executive producer’s support, the Wolverines ended their 23-home game winning streak in a blowout against the Texas Longhorns. Jon Hein couldn’t help but notice what was different this time. “I’ve been back every year [and] every time I’ve gone, they’ve won … the only thing that changed this time was Gary being there,” he noted. “You can’t win every game, of course, but it was just so hard to watch and painful to endure.”
