VIDEO: JD Harmeyer’s Superstitious Drinking Ritual

When the Cincinnati Bengals kicked off the 2024-2025 N.F.L. season with three consecutive losses, Stern Show staffer and superfan JD Harmeyer grew concerned. So much so that he returned to drinking an entire bottle of champagne out of a Bengals beer stein — something he used to do with colleague and friend Jon Blitt during the team’s incredible 2021-2022 season. “I thought, ‘Well let’s go back to the well — I’ll try anything I can do to get their luck changed,” he explained Monday morning. “Coincidence or not, they won.”

Despite JD’s insistence that he was drinking the bottle over several hours, Howard called a flag on the play. “I am concerned about JD,” he said of his staffer before speaking to him directly. “I know you’ve become very reclusive and now you’re drinking alone.”
