Matthew McConaughey Hangs With Jonah Hill, Snoop Dogg, and a Coke-Addicted Parrot in 'The Beach Bum' Red Band Trailer

Matthew McConaughey’s a sunburnt, substance-abusing poet who wears thongs and unbuttoned Hawaiian shirts in the upcoming comedy “The Beach Bum.”

The official red band trailer follows Moondog (McConaughey) as he bounces around from beach to boat to bar and back again, seemingly in search of nothing but fresh air, a golden tan, and his next high. Along the way, he encounters a cocaine-addicted parrot, a prop-plane pilot smoking a “Cheech & Chong”-sized joint, and a bizarre cast of characters played by Isla Fisher, Zac Efron, Jimmy Buffet, Martin Lawrence, and repeat Stern Show guests Jonah Hill and Snoop Dogg.

“One day I will swallow up the world,” Moondog declares at one point after accepting an award for poetry. “When I do I hope you all perish silently.”

“The Beach Bum,” writer-director Harmony Korine’s first film since the equally off-kilter “Spring Breakers,” isn’t Matthew’s only foray into the stoner comedy genre—the Oscar-winning actor memorably played a burnout in his breakthrough role in Richard Linklater’s “Dazed and Confused.” Matthew spoke to Howard all about his wild characters and roller coaster of a career during his 2017 Stern Show visit, including his stint as Hollywood’s go-to guy for romantic comedies and how the press had once branded him as “shirtless McConaughey on the beach.”
