June 5, 2019David Spade’s late-night takeover is just over a month away.
On Thursday, Comedy Central debuted an official teaser for the comedian and repeat Stern Show guest’s brand-new show as well as a premiere date and title. “Lights Out With David Spade” debuts on July 29, following “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah.” As previously reported, it will focus on pop culture, contain sketches and field segments, and feature a rotating cast of David’s celebrity friends.
David rocks a hip suit, cool shades, and a Joshua tree accessory in the new teaser, which mostly consists of the camera zooming in on his smiling face. “Too close. I feel like when you get this close, America finds out how old I am,” Spade jokes (above).
When Comedy Central announced it was bringing Spade back to late-night in February, the entertainer released a selfie video revealing his new show would focus on pop culture and avoid political discussion at all costs—unless of course fellow Stern Show veteran Cardi B “runs for something,” he joked.
Spade has certainly proven himself to be a pop culture expert in the past, from his recurring “Hollywood Minute” segment on “SNL’s” “Weekend Update” to his previous Comedy Central series “The Showbiz Show” During a 2018 visit to the Stern Show, he discussed everything from meeting the “Cash Me Outside” girl to Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande’s high-profile engagement.
