Civic activists and party enthusiasts Chad Kroeger and JT
Parr stopped by the Stern Show on Wednesday to debut their latest cause: creating
a second Fourth of July. The comedy duo presented their case before the
Manhattan Beach City Council earlier this month, telling the committee there
needs to be another Independence Day so that people can continue to rage all
summer long.
“America built the Fourth of July holiday around raging and
I bet the founding fathers used to celebrate the Fourth 47 times a year, one
for each state,” Chad argues in the new video (above). “That’s why the
forefathers threw tea in the harbor – to make room for more kegs.”
JT echoed Chad’s sentiments about adding another summer holiday
and even opened up about why July 4 means so much to him.
“Not to overshare but I lost my virginity on the Fourth of
July, 10 days ago,” JT admitted to the council members. “We chugged Kirkland vodka
from the bottle and reminisced about a religious retreat from high school while
we watched the fireworks. She’s the one.”
JT then hammered his point home by doing an a cappella
rendition of Natasha Bedingfield’s hit single “Unwritten,” probably best known
as the theme song to the MTV series “The Hills.”
“I’m so proud of you guys. What a great idea,” Howard said
with a laugh.
“I think it’s been a common complaint for a long time,” Chad
deadpanned.
While the Manhattan Beach City Council hasn’t
yet come around on a second Fourth of July, the duo’s efforts have not gone completely
unnoticed. For starters, Chad and JT’s newfound fame has afforded them the opportunity
to pump some iron with actor, renowned bodybuilder, and fellow Stern Show guest
Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The guys said working out with Arnold was an “epic”
experience, and not just because he had so much to teach them about calf raises
and bicep development. “We were so stoked to meet someone as stoked on civil
service as we are,” Chad told Howard.
