VIDEO: Eddie Murphy Disembowels Wesley Snipes in First ‘Dolemite Is My Name’ Trailer
Keegan-Michael Key and Snoop Dogg co-star in the upcoming film about trailblazing entertainer Rudy Ray Moore
August 12, 2019Eddie Murphy is a man of many talents in the first trailer for “Dolemite Is My Name,” the Oscar-nominated entertainer’s upcoming Netflix film about the life and career of trailblazing comedian, actor, and musician Rudy Ray Moore.
Directed by Craig Brewer (“Black Snake Moan”), the biographical comedy follows Moore (Murphy) as he struggles to find an audience for his obscenely hilarious, kung fu-fighting alter ego Dolemite. “Sometimes our dreams just don’t come true,” co-star and Stern Show veteran Snoop Dogg cautions Murphy after some early setbacks.
Rudy eventually decides to bring Dolemite to the big screen, enlisting the help of a social justice-minded dramatist (Keegan-Michael Key) to write a script and a pretentious director, D’Urville Martin (Wesley Snipes), to direct and co-star in picture. Snipes and Murphy’s characters quickly butt heads both in front of and behind the cameras, however. In one scene, Murphy even rips an intestine right from Snipes’ body.
“Dolemite Is My Name” co-stars Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Epps, Craig Robinson, and Tituss Burgess. Recent Stern Show guest Chris Rock reportedly appears in the film, too, though he isn’t featured in the trailer.
Murphy hasn’t made too many films over the past decade, but “Dolemite Is My Name” may be the beginning of his big-screen comeback as he’s also reportedly set to star in upcoming sequels to “Coming to America” and “Beverly Hills Cop.” He’s also rumored to be in talks with Netflix on a record-breaking comedy special, which Howard and fellow comedian Whitney Cummings discussed just last week.
“Dolemite Is My Name” arrives this fall on Netflix. Watch the trailer (above).
