VIDEO: Mandy Moore Releases ‘When I Wasn’t Watching,’ First New Song in 10 Years
Song will appear on the 2018 Stern Show guest’s upcoming full-length album
September 18, 2019Mandy Moore has returned to her roots.
On Tuesday, the pop star, actress, and 2018 Stern Show guest released the music video for “When I Wasn’t Watching,” her first new song in 10 years. Produced by longtime collaborator Mike Viola, the tune will appear on Mandy’s forthcoming full-length album.
Directed by Lauren Dukoff, the video shows Mandy looking out a window wistfully, rubbing up against a wall in a revealing outfit, and waving her arms in a pool, all while singing lyrics which seem to echo her evolution as an artist over the past decade.
“The idea of diving back into music after so much time and personal change was really intimidating to me for a while,” Mandy said in a statement. “But then I finally realized: I’m the only person who can make this move. It all has to start with me.”
Due out in early 2020, Mandy’s new album features contributions from Dawes frontman Taylor Goldsmith, who also happens to be her husband. The two were not yet married when Mandy made her Stern Show debut last June, but she opened up to Howard about her relationship with him at length. She also spoke about her early days as a singer, teased her eventual return to the music world, and even got candid about her chances of winning an Emmy for her work on NBC’s critically acclaimed drama “This Is Us.”
“I would never win. There’s no way,” Mandy told Howard with a laugh. She might have spoken too soon, however, as Mandy wound up earning a nomination this year and may well take home a statue on Sunday. Listen to a clip from her conversation with Howard (below).
