VIDEO: Hugh Grant Is a Hard-Drinking Crime Boss and Matthew McConaughey Is a Marijuana-Manufacturing Lion in ‘The Gentlemen’ Official Trailer
Guy Ritchie action film co-stars Colin Farrell, Charlie Hunnam, and Henry Golding
October 2, 2019Guy Ritchie returns to his roots in the official trailer for “The Gentlemen,” a London-set crime film starring Matthew McConuaghey as a massive marijuana manufacturer considering cashing out of the business for good.
The trailer kicks off with fellow Stern Show guest Hugh Grant popping open a bottle of whiskey after presumably breaking into the house of one of McConaughey’s lieutenants, played by “Sons of Anarchy’s” Charlie Hunnam. “I want you to play a game with me,” Grant demands before delivering a monologue outlining the rising tensions between American expat Mickey Pearson (McConaughey) and a well-armed rival (“Crazy Rich Asians” star Henry Golding).
Pearson’s mettle is repeatedly tested, but as far as he’s concerned he still sits atop the food chain. “In a jungle, the only way a lion survives is not by acting like a king, by being a king,” McCoanughey’s character explains (above). After dispensing a few rounds of violence, he adds an addendum: “There’s only one rule in this jungle: when the lion’s hungry he eats.”
Ritchie, whose previous credits include “Snatch,” “Aladdin,” and two “Sherlock Holmes” movies, co-wrote the script for the film which also features Colin Farrell, Michelle Dockery, Jeremy Strong, and Eddie Marsan.
McConaughey was most recently on the Stern Show in 2017 when he opened up about everything from his most successful roles to his upbringing with his parents. Grant made his debut in 2016, meanwhile, and spoke to Howard about a real-life criminal scandal he was embroiled in back in England. Watch a clip from their conversation (below).
