What’s Coming to Netflix, HBO Now, Amazon Prime, and Hulu in January 2018
From ”The Godfather” trilogy to all eight “Harry Potter” films, the new year brings something for everyone
January 2, 2018There’s good news for those whose New Year’s resolutions include binge watching movies and TV on the couch. Netflix, HBO Now, Amazon Prime, and Hulu have unveiled their digital streaming lineups for January and there’s enough new content to make everyone happy.
Netflix kicks off 2018 with an array of original films and TV shows, including a new season of Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin’s “Grace and Frankie,” a documentary series about food called “Rotten,” Jack Black’s dancing con-man comedy “The Polka King,” and new episodes of Jerry Seinfeld’s “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee,” which he teased recently on the Stern Show. Other arrivals include all five seasons of Showtime’s “Episodes,” Matthew McConaughey’s “Dallas Buyer’s Club,” “Wedding Crashers,” “The Shawshank Redemption,” and a selection of blockbuster film franchises which includes five “Batman” movies, all four “Lethal Weapon” movies, and “The Godfather” trilogy.
HBO Now is making a splash with a big-time franchise of its own, conjuring up all eight “Harry Potter” films in January as well as the “Back to the Future” trilogy. Additionally, the streamer will debut the music documentary “David Bowie: The Last Five Years,” the classic comedy “Kindergarten Cop” starring 2015 Stern Show guest Arnold Schwarzenegger, and well as a string of recent theatrical releases like the Tupac biopic “All Eyez on Me,” the extended version of Vin Diesel and the Rock’s “The Fate of the Furious,” the Goldie Hawn and Amy Schumer kidnapping comedy “Snatched,” and the Kate Mara thriller “Morgan.”
Amazon Prime is all about the auteurs in January, adding films from some of the most highly regarded directors in the business, including David Fincher’s “Zodiac,” Sam Mendes’ “Revolutionary Road,” and repeat Stern Show guest Quentin Tarantino’s first film, “Reservoir Dogs.” On the TV side, Amazon delivers Season 10 of “Doctor Who,” Season 6 of “Grimm,” and the debut season of its sci-fi original “Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams,” starring Anna Paquin, Steve Buscemi, and Stern Show favorite Bryan Cranston.
Hulu hosts a handful of modern classics, ranging from Darren Aronofsky’s “Requiem for a Dream,” starring Jennifer Connelly and Jared Leto, to Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Punch-Drunk Love,” starring the late-great Philip Seymour Hoffman and recent Stern Show guest Adam Sandler. Like the other streamers, Hulu has also nabbed the rights to several franchises, including two “Bill & Ted’s” films, three “Look Who’s Talking” movies, and four “Karate Kid” films. It has a music documentary of its own in January, too, in “Beside Bowie: The Mick Ronson Story.”
But those are just a few things to help you ring in the new year. Here’s the complete list of what’s coming to Netflix, HBO, Hulu, and Amazon Prime in January 2018:
