VIDEO: Billy Crystal, Hulk Hogan, and More Praise Larger-Than-Life Wrestling Legend in ‘André the Giant’ Trailer
HBO's WWE and Bill Simmons-produced documentary debuts in April
January 29, 2018HBO has (elbow) dropped the official trailer for “André the Giant,” its upcoming documentary about the 7-foot-4-inch, 500-pound French entertainer who dominated professional wrestling for nearly two decades before dying of congestive heart failure in 1993.
In addition to featuring archival footage of the beloved wrestling legend in action, the trailer (above) sheds light on André’s life outside the ring, including his acting roles, his infamous partying prowess, and the devastating health issues plaguing his life and career.
Produced by HBO Sports, WWE, and celebrity superfan and 2016 Stern Show guest Bill Simmons, the doc also features interviews with many of the so-called Eighth Wonder of the World’s contemporaries, including wrestling rival Hulk Hogan, sports entertainment mogul Vince McMahon, and André’s “Princess Bride” co-star turned friend Billy Crystal.
“Everyone who ever crossed paths with him has an André story — and usually four or five,” Simmons said in a statement. “I’m delighted to join forces with [director] Jason Hehir and WWE so we can capture Andre’s amazing story once and for all.”
“André the Giant” premieres April 10 on HBO. Watch the trailer (above).
