VIDEO: Melissa McCarthy Does Drugs With Foul-Mouthed Muppets in First NSFW Trailer for ‘The Happytime Murders’
Elizabeth Banks, Maya Rudolph, and Joel McHale co-star in new hard-R comedy that’s definitely not for kids
May 18, 2018Sex, drugs, and adorable puppets all come together in the first trailer for “The Happytime Murders,” Melissa McCarthy’s upcoming movie that shows the darker side of what goes down when there aren’t any kids watching. Director Brian Henson, son of Muppets creator Jim Henson, helms this hard-R comedy that co-stars Elizabeth Banks, Maya Rudolph, and Joel McHale.
McCarthy plays a police detective forced to partner with a puppet as foul-mouthed as herself in order to track down the serial killer whose been blowing the heads off of other puppets. Their search takes them to a few neighborhoods that don’t look anything like Sesame Street, especially considering how much sex is being had. In one scene, a down-on-his-luck puppet asks Melissa if he can blow her for 50 cents.
“Well, it’s a great price. Almost makes me wish I had a dick for you to suck,” Melissa says before punching the puppet’s lights out.
Melissa is willing to do whatever it takes to solve the case, though, including going undercover in a puppet-filled drug den and snorting pure ecstasy.
“That is good shit!” she says after losing consciousness for just a bit.
When Melissa visited the Stern Show in 2016, she told Howard about her first time trying live comedy on her second day living in New York after her friend, fashion designer Brian Atwood, signed her up for an open mic night.
“I just started telling weird, long, self-involved stories. And it went well, except I didn’t know to get off. I didn’t know what the light meant,” Melissa said with a laugh.
“The Happytime Murders” opens in theaters Aug. 17. Check out the trailer (above).
