AUDIO: Christmas Comes Early With William Shatner and Iggy Pop’s Cover of ‘Silent Night’
Song appears on the “Star Trek” actor and spoken-word legend’s upcoming Christmas album, “Shatner Claus”

There’s good news for the naughty and nice alike.
“Star Trek” legend, spoken-word maestro, and repeat Stern Show guest William Shatner has just released a cover of the classic Christmas tune “Silent Night,” featuring Stooges frontman and punk rock icon Iggy Pop.
Hailing from William’s forthcoming Holiday album “Shatner Claus,” the nearly four-minute-long song consists primarily of him speaking the 200-year-old Christmas carol’s lyrics over its equally familiar piano melody. Iggy begins singing around the 50-second mark and drops back in sporadically throughout, though his delivery is perhaps a bit gentler than fans of the “Lust for Life” and “I Wanna Be Your Dog” rocker may be accustomed to hearing.
“Silent Night” is the second cover Shatner has previewed from his upcoming seasonal album, following a far more up-tempo version of “Jingle Bells” along with Stern Show veteran Henry Rollins. “Shatner Claus” also features collaborations with the likes of Stern Show veterans Billy Gibbons (“Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer”) and Artimus Pyle (with Todd Rundgren on “Winter Wonderland”) as well as team-ups with Judy Collins, Brad Paisley, Yes’ Rick Wakeman, and Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull.
