VIDEO: Arthur Curry Learns to Swim and Atlantis Rises Again in Final ‘Aquaman’ Trailer
Jason Momoa stars in the James Wan-directed superhero film, diving into theaters on Dec. 21
November 19, 2018Jason Momoa is neck deep in adventure in the final trailer for “Aquaman,” opening in December.
Released Monday, the latest look dives deeper into the younger days of Arthur Curry (Momoa), a.k.a. DC Comics superhero Aquaman. Son of a lighthouse keeper (Temuera Morrison) and the Queen of Atlantis (Nicole Kidman), the half-human, half-Atlantean spends the early portions of the clip (above) getting schooled by Nuidis Vulko (Willem Dafoe), a trusty mentor who teaches him to swim, fight, and wield a trident like a proper underwater royal.
It’s anything but smooth sailing for the only member of the Justice League who can talk to fish, however—before long he’s butting heads with his violent half-brother Orm (Patrick Wilson), who has grown up to become King of Atlantis and really, really wants to wage war on human landlubbers.
Curry is eventually tasked with battling his brother, bringing peace to the Seven Seas, saving mankind, and helping Atlantis to rise again. But to complete his underwater mission and usurp his brother’s throne he’ll need to enlist the help of Mera (Amber Heard) and upgrade his trident to a new, all-powerful one.
“In this trident resides the power of Atlantis,” a hologram tells Arthur and Mera (above). “In the wrong hands it would bring destruction, but in the hands of the true heir it would unite above and below.”
Palace intrigue is of course nothing new for Momoa, who’s biggest role prior to appearing in the “Justice League” franchise was as Khal Drogo on “Game of Thrones.”
“Aquaman,” co-starring stars Djimon Hounsou, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Dolph Lundgren, opens Dec. 21. Watch the final trailer (above).
