VIDEO: The Cali Cartel Takes Over in First ‘Narcos’ Season 3 Teaser
Damián Alcázar and Pedro Pascal-led Netflix drama returns Sept. 1
July 14, 2017Netflix dropped the first teaser and a premiere date on Friday for Season 3 of its drug-trafficking drama “Narcos,” and by all measures it looks like the rise of a new empire.
After Pablo Escobar’s demise at the end of Season 2, a new heavily-connected crew has taken over the Colombian drug trade. If the teaser (above) is any indication, the upcoming season will shift its focus to Colombia’s Cali Cartel, led by four powerful players — Gilberto Rodríguez Orejuela (Damián Alcázar), Miguel Rodriguez Orejuela (Francisco Denis), “Pacho” Herrera (Alberto Ammann), and José Santacruz Londoño (Pêpê Rapazote). Unlike Escobar, this cartel prefers to bribe government officials and keep their violence out of the headlines.
“Cocaine cartels are about succession,” Pedro Pascal’s character DEA Agent Javier Peña narrates in the trailer. “While the whole world was focused on Escobar, Cali became the biggest cocaine cartel in history. And to pretend that these guys weren’t just as evil as the guy that came before them — that’s a mistake.”
“Narcos” Season 3, also featuring Michael Stahl-David, Matt Whelan, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, Kerry Bishé, and Arturo Castro, will be available Sept. 1 on Netflix.
