I first heard Coheed and Cambria in 2004 on K-Rock when I first started working for the Howard Stern Show. The song was “A Favor House Atlantic” and I was immediately hooked. I bought the album “In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth” and became a massive fan.
Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought that 11 years later I would be playing that same song with them on stage in Greenpoint, Brooklyn at St. Vitus Bar (a killer heavy metal bar that I love which also happens to be walking distance from my apartment). I’ve become friends with the band since then, and I have been through more than a few diapers at their shows (something I wear so that I don’t have to use the restroom and miss any songs, since all of their songs rule!).
When they invited me to play “A Favor House Atlantic” with them on stage during a special intimate New York Comic Con show I of course was honored and said yes to this once in a lifetime opportunity even though I was scheduled to run the Brooklyn Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon literally 5 hours after I jammed with the band at 7am the next morning. Running a half marathon on about two hours of sleep was totally worth it though, as you will be able to see in this video. You’ll also notice that I’m wearing a Kansas City Royals jersey because earlier that night the Royals won a playoff game against the Houston Astros and I was in Royals fan heaven.
In closing, thank you so much to all of the Coheed guys and their manager Blaze for this once in a lifetime chance to jam with my favorite band! Coheed RULES!!!!
