VIDEO: NBC Affiliate Cuts Interpreter From Frame Despite Pleas From Official
Miami-Dade County, Fla. officials were attempting to dispense vital Hurricane Matthew-related information

An NBC affiliate in South Florida seems determined to cover Hurricane Matthew on its own terms, county officials be damned.
Miami-Dade County officials held a press conference on Thursday to provide vital information to citizens bracing for the 140 mph hurricane headed their way. Before one official cleared the podium for Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Giménez, he urged the assembled cameramen to frame the press conference in such a way that the American Sign Language interpreter on the edge of the stage would still be visible. After all, those who only speak sign language were in need of this information, too.
Well, just as the official was making his plea, NBC’s WTVJ zoomed in on the podium and completely cut the interpreter from frame.

Hurricane Matthew, which claimed hundreds of lives as it went through Haiti, just narrowly missed Miami as it traveled north along the state’s Atlantic coast late Thursday night. As of Friday afternoon, the hurricane continues traveling north near the Florida-Georgia line. A hurricane warning is still in effect for much of the Eastern seaboard and storm-related coastal flooding is already occurring everywhere from South Florida to South Carolina.
