VIDEO: ‘Waco’ Trailer Teases Taylor Kitsch as Cult Leader David Koresh
Upcoming mini-series also stars Michael Shannon, John Leguizamo, and “Supergirl” star Melissa Benoist
September 27, 2017Texans on the football drama “Friday Night Lights” figuratively worshipped Taylor Kitsch as his school’s star running back Tim Riggins, but that pales in comparison to the Texans literally worshipping him in the first trailer for “Waco,” an upcoming mini-series about the Branch Davidians who in 1993 engaged in a 51-day standoff with law enforcement which ultimately led to multiple arrests and the deaths of 76 people.
In the new teaser for the series (above), Kitsch—who has played muscly action stars in “Lone Survivor,” “John Carter,” and “Battleship”—is nearly unrecognizable as the religious sect’s scrawny but charismatic would-be prophet David Koresh.
“The Kingdom of Heaven is coming,” Koresh says (above). “I promise you.”
In addition to offering a look inside Korseh and the Branch Davidians’ Waco, Tex., compound, including glimpses at Koresh’s wife Rachel (played by “Supergirl” starlet Melissa Benoist), the short trailer shows the perspective of the law enforcement officers who eventually laid siege to the compound, like FBI hostage negotiator Gary Noesner (portrayed by “Boardwalk Empire” star and Wrap Up Show veteran Michael Shannon).
The six-part series, which also co-stars John Leguizamo, Rory Culkin, Julia Garner, and Andrea Riseborough, airs in January on the Paramount Network. Watch the teaser (above).
