From the Stephen King anthology series “Castle Rock” to Hulu’s new Marvel adaptation “Runaways”
October 9, 2017New York Comic Con 2017 was about more than zombies, superhero team-ups, and Nazis. In fact, this past weekend’s annual NYC-set comic convention ushered in a litany of talked-about film and TV trailers, from a Keanu Reeves clone thriller to a Stephen King anthology series to Hulu’s brand-new Marvel adaptation.
Check them out (below).
“Pacific Rim Uprising” (Official Trailer)
It’s mechs vs. monsters once more in the official trailer for “Pacific Rim Uprising,” the Steven S. DeKnight (“Daredevil”)-directed sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s 2013 adventure film which saw giant human-controlled robots battling trans-dimensional sea creatures hellbent on ushering in the apocalypse. “Uprising”—starring franchise newcomers John Boyega (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”), Jing Tian (“Kong: Skull Island”), and Scott Eastwood (“Suicide Squad”) alongside returning veterans Charlie Day and Rinko Kikuchi—opens in March.
Fox’s “The X-Files” (Season 11 NYCC Trailer)
FBI special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are back (again) in the chaotic NYCC trailer for “The X-Files” Season 11, which sees David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson’s characters trying to save the world alongside old allies like Skinner (Mitch Pileggi) and the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) as well as newcomers Agent Einstein (Lauren Ambrose) and Agent Miller (“Flash’s” Robbie Amell). “The X-Files” returns to Fox in 2018.
Hulu’s “Castle Rock” (First Look Teaser)
New York Comic Con debuted trailers for two vastly different anthology series inspired by the works of legendary genre authors. The first was “Electric Dreams,” Amazon’s Philip K. Dick-inspired sci-fi show starring Anna Paquin and Stern Show veteran Bryan Cranston. The second was “Castle Rock,” a new Hulu series based on characters and stories created by horror master Stephen King. The J.J. Abrams-produced show stars Jane Levy, Scott Glenn, Melanie Lynskey, Terry O’Quinn, and former “Carrie” star Sissy Spacek, as well as “It” villain Bill Skarsgard, who reprises his role on the Hulu series as Pennywise the Clown.
“Replicas” (Official Trailer)
Keanu Reeves plays a neuroscientist and, well, God, in “Replicas,” an upcoming clone-filled thriller about the lengths to which a man will go to keep his family intact after a deadly tragedy. The trailer (above) also stars Alice Eve, John Ortiz, and Thomas Middleditch.
Hulu’s “Marvel’s Runaways” (Official Teaser)
Six teenagers join forces to battle a common foe — their supervillain parents — in this Josh Schwartz (“The O.C.”)-created Hulu series adapted from a Marvel comic of the same name.
Amazon’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” (Teaser Trailer)
First portrayed by Stern Show regular Alec Baldwin in the 1990 film “The Hunt for Red October,” Tom Clancy’s legendary CIA analyst-turned-super spy Jack Ryan is finally getting his own TV series. The NYCC-released teaser for the 2018 Amazon Prime series shows John Krasinski (“The Office”) as Ryan with assists from Abbie Cornish, Timothy Hutton, Wendell Pierce, and Peter Fonda.
Amazon’s “The Tick” (Season 2 Teaser Trailer)
Ben Edlund’s off-beat superhero series “The Tick” is returning to Amazon much quicker than expected. The digital streamer dropped a teaser trailer Saturday at New York Comic Con (above), revealing the show—starring Peter Serafinowicz and Griffin Newman—will return for Season 2 on Feb. 23.
