VIDEO: Watch Foo Fighters Fan Take Stage With Band and Nail ‘Monkey Wrench’ Guitar Solo
“Holy shit,” frontman Dave Grohl exclaims after lending Yayo “KISS Guy” Sanchez his axe and watching him play
April 23, 2018Foo Fighters took their talents to Austin, Texas, last week and frontman Dave Grohl unexpectedly had his world rocked by a super fan with major guitar skills.
It started when Dave invited concertgoer Yayo Sanchez on stage after spotting him in the audience wearing KISS-style face paint and holding a “Monkey Wrench” sign. Dubbing the decked-out fan “KISS Guy,” Dave lent the man his guitar so he could play along to “Monkey Wrench,” one of the Foo Fighters biggest—and fastest—hits.
KISS Guy took Dave up on his offer, but instead of sheepishly strumming along to the Grammy-winning band and repeat Stern Show guest’s 1997 single, the fan pulled a guitar pick from his pocket and proceeded to put on a show. Dave was so blown away by the man’s skills he allowed him to sit in for the whole song and even encouraged him to attempt a face-melting guitar solo.
“Alright, KISS Guy,” Dave says into the mic (above), “I wanna hear you shred, give it to ‘em.”
KISS Guy did not disappoint. He delivered a devastating solo and played along with the band for the entire song. Dave and KISS Guy exchanged embraces and “we’re not worthy” bows as “Monkey Wrench” wound down and the fan eventually left the stage, but he had clearly left his mark on the evening.
“Holy shit,” a still reeling-Dave exclaims (above) while gearing up for the next song.
Foo Fighters are currently on their “Concrete and Gold” Tour, named for the band’s recently released album of the same name, featuring collaborations with everyone from Sir Paul McCartney to pop star Justin Timberlake.
