VIDEO: First ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Trailer Reveals Which Heroes Survived for a Rematch With Thanos
2019 Marvel sequel's stars include Stern Show guests Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Paul Rudd
December 7, 2018Fans left reeling after this year’s brutal “Avengers: Infinity War” ending might consider averting their eyes. Marvel Studios released the title and the first trailer for its 2019 follow-up, “Avengers: Endgame,” and Earth’s mightiest heroes are still in big trouble.
The clip (above) begins with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) alone and adrift in space as he records a gut-wrenching message for Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) detailing the skirmish against Thanos (Josh Brolin) that resulted in the deaths of so many of Iron Man’s colleagues.
Things are just as dire back on Earth. “Thanos did exactly what he said he’s going to do. He wiped out 50 percent of all living creatures,” Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow explains over images hinting the genocidal villain has retired to tend to an extragalactic farm.
“We lost, all of us. We lost friends, we lost family, we lost a part of ourselves. This is the fight of our lives,” a clean-shaven Captain America (Chris Pratt) adds over a montage of surviving Avengers—including Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner)—assembling for one last battle.
The mostly somber clip takes an upbeat turn at the end with the emergence of Ant-Man (fellow Stern Show veteran Paul Rudd), who appears at Avengers headquarters hoping he can help save the day.
“Avengers: Endgame” hits theaters on April 26. Watch the official trailer (above).
