VIDEO: Marc Maron and Alison Brie’s ‘GLOW’ (Elbow) Drops Season 2 Release Date Teaser
Netflix’s ‘80s-set, female wrestling comedy returns to the ring June 29
April 18, 2018Break out the leg warmers and leotards because the gorgeous ladies of wrestling are going back in the ring.
Netflix dropped a teaser on Tuesday revealing the Season 2 premiere date of “GLOW,” its acclaimed comedy series about the rise of female wrestling in the 1980s.
The show stars Alison Brie (“Mad Men”) and Betty Gilpin (“Nurse Jackie”) as Zoya the Destroya and Liberty Belle, two actresses who improbably become professional wrestlers on a cable TV show produced by a sarcastic and sometimes sleazy director played by Stern Show veteran Marc Maron. And while Season 2 will reportedly tackle a plethora of plot points regarding the ladies’ newfound fame and quasi-glory following their Season 1 successes, the teaser (above) doesn’t delve into any of that.
Instead, fans are treated to an irreverent locker room lip-syncing routine during which the GLOW gals tag team Michael Sembello’s “Maniac,” a song employed memorably in a similarly styled “Flashdance” montage. When Maron’s character bursts into the locker room, however, he threatens to put a damper on the ladies’ fun.
“Hey, what’s going on here?” he barks. “We got a show to do. What is this? Come on, let’s go!”
Stern Show fans may remember Maron was equally career focused during his 2013 Stern Show debut, telling Howard he had long aspired to emulate actor-comedian Jon Stewart and all his successes. Watch a clip from their sit down (below).
“GLOW” Season 2 premieres Friday, June 28 on Netflix. Check out the date announcement teaser (above).
