VIDEO: Ike Barinholtz and Tiffany Haddish’s Thanksgiving Dinner Turns Violent in New Trailer for ‘The Oath’
Politically charged dark comedy opens Oct. 12
September 7, 2018Stern Show celebrity superfan Ike Barinholtz and “Night School” star Tiffany Haddish play a liberal married couple whose Thanksgiving dinner with their conservative-leaning family turns violent in the latest trailer for “The Oath,” an upcoming dark comedy about surviving the holidays during politically tumultuous times.
The new trailer (above) begins with Ike and Tiffany’s characters in bed, reacting to a White House decree asking Americans to sign the “Patriot’s Oath,” a state-sponsored loyalty waiver, by the day after Thanksgiving. The couple is outraged by the news, and their frustrations grow exponentially after Ike’s conservative family comes over for a combative Thanksgiving feast.
Ike’s character soon finds himself defending the honor of fellow Stern Show veterans Chris Rock and Adam Sandler, lecturing his racist dad about car crash statistics, and contemplating the ramifications of “taking an American flag and shoving it up” one’s most delicate of orifices. Things take a turn for the violent, however, after government agents (played by “Star Trek’s” John Cho and “Game Night’s” Billy Magnussen) arrive on the scene—relatives get tasered, Ike brandishes a handgun, and the trailer even suggests murder may be afoot.
Written and directed by Barinholtz, the film also stars Carrie Brownstein, Chris Ellis, Meredith Hagner, Nora Dunn.
“The Oath” hits theaters Oct. 12. Watch the trailer (above).
