See Charlize Theron Play a Presidential Candidate and Seth Rogen’s Former Babysitter in ‘Long Shot’ Trailer
Stern Show guests’ politics and romance-infused comedy opens May 3
February 19, 2019Charlize Theron stars as a U.S. Secretary of State whose presidential bid takes a bizarre turn after hiring a speechwriter played by fellow Stern Show veteran Seth Rogen in “Long Shot,” an upcoming politics and romance-infused comedy executive produced by Rogen and his longtime collaborator Evan Goldberg.
The film’s trailer begins with newly announced presidential candidate Charlotte Field (Theron) running into a familiar face at a swanky house party. It’s Fred Flarsky (Rogen), a political reporter who is well respected in the field despite a few childlike tendencies.
“I used to babysit for him,” Theron’s character explains to one of her staffers after the encounter.
“You babysat for him? Wow, time has not been kind,” the staffer (played by June Diane Raphael) responds.
Secretary Field eventually hires Fred as a speechwriter and brings him along on the campaign trail. The sparks soon begin to fly and before long the unlikely duo is exchanging favorite sexual positions, attending raves, and getting caught by the Secret Service while trying to make out in a storage closet.
Rogen and Goldberg have tackled matters of the heart and the state before in successful comedies like “Knocked Up,” which saw Rogen fall for Katherine Heigl, and “The Interview,” which saw Rogen travel to North Korea with James Franco. Seth discussed working with Evan during several of his visits to the Stern Show, including in 2017 when he sat down with Howard to promote the duo’s comics-inspired TV project “Preacher.” Watch clips from that interview here.
Directed by Jonathan Levine (“Snatched”) and written by Dan Sterling and Liz Hannah, “Long Shot” also stars O’Shea Jackson Jr. (“Straight Outta Compton”), Andy Serkis (“Black Panther”), Alexander Skarsgård (“True Blood”), and Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”).
“Long Shot” opens May 3.
