Mötley Crüe Drops Sex, Rock, and Shenanigans-Filled Music Video for ‘The Dirt (Est. 1981)’
New track hails from the soundtrack to the rock icons' upcoming Netflix biopic
February 22, 2019Motley Crüe are up to their old tricks again. The legendary rockers just dropped the music video for “The Dirt (Est. 1981)—their first new song since 2015—and fans shouldn’t be surprised to learn partying, rocking out, and girls, girls, girls once again take center stage.
The song, which waxes poetic about breasts, booze, and the band’s glory days in 1980s Los Angeles, hails from the soundtrack to their upcoming Netflix biopic “The Dirt” and features an assist from rapper Machine Gun Kelly, who plays founding member Tommy Lee in the film. Due out in March with the movie, the soundtrack features a cornucopia of Crüe’s greatest hits as well as four new tracks, including a cover of Madonna’s “Like a Virgin.”
The video for “The Dirt (Est. 1981)” (above) blends together footage of Kelly, Lee, and the rest of Motley Crüe (Nikki Sixx, Vince Neil, Mick Mars) recording the track in the studio with clips and behind-the-scenes footage from the biopic, including notorious hotel room antics, sold-out stadium performances, and cameos from some of the film’s stars like Iwan Rheon (“Game of Thrones”) and 2018 Stern Show guest Pete Davidson.
“During the filming of our movie we got excited and inspired to write new music,” bassist Sixx said in a statement given to Rolling Stone. “Getting back in the studio with [producer] Bob Rock just fueled the creative fires for us. To me, the music sounds like classic Mötley. The lyrics were written for the movie and are a reflection of our life.”
“The Dirt” and its official soundtrack debut March 22. Get more info on the album here.
