August 20, 2019One of America’s most beloved musicians is headed to a theater near you.
Warner Bros. Pictures has released the trailer for “Western Stars,” a cinematic film version of Bruce Springsteen’s identically titled new album. Directed by his longtime collaborator Thom Zimny, it premieres at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival before moseying into theaters this fall.
The trailer features plenty of rare footage as well as a dose of Bruce’s renowned storytelling, which Howard and some lucky members of the Stern Show staff experienced firsthand on Broadway. It also teases an epic live performance as Springsteen plays all 13 tracks off “Western Stars” in a 100-year-old-barn while accompanied by a band, a full orchestra, and special guest Patti Scialfa, who also happens to be his wife.
“It’s easy to lose yourself or never find yourself,” Bruce says in the clip. “The older you get, the heavier that baggage becomes that you haven’t sorted through. So you run. I’ve done a lot of that kind of running.”
“I’ve spent 35 years trying to learn how to let go of the destructive parts of my character, and I still have days that I struggle with it,” he continues. “We all have our broken pieces—emotionally, spiritually. In this life nobody gets away unhurt.”
“Western Stars,” the Boss’s 19th studio album and first in five years, debuted to critical acclaim in June. Several of its songs have already been given the music video treatment, including the emotionally resonant title track, “Hello Sunshine,” and “There Goes My Miracle.”
“Western Stars” hits theaters in October.
