VIDEO: Paul Rudd Helps Small Town Kids Take on the Paranormal in ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ Trailer
Finn Wolfhard co-stars in the Jason Reitman-directed film, opening July 10
December 9, 2019Repeat Stern Show guest Paul Rudd and “Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard ain’t afraid of no ghosts in the official trailer for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” Jason Reitman’s upcoming sequel to his father Ivan’s blockbuster 1980s action-comedies.
The “Afterlife” trailer begins with a broke single mother (Wrap Up Show guest Carrie Coon) and her two children moving to a small Oklahoma town where they’ve inherited a raggedy old farmhouse from a relative. What young Phoebe (“Captain Marvel’s” Mckenna Grace) and Trevor Spengler (Wolfhard) don’t know, however, is that the grandfather who left them the place is the eccentric scientist turned founding Ghostbuster Egon Spengler, portrayed memorably by the late Harold Ramis in the franchise’s first two films.
The children turn to their teacher Mr. Grooberson (Rudd) after discovering strange gadgets in their home and paranormal shenanigans aplenty in their new town. That’s when they learn about the first generation of Ghostbusters. “There hasn’t been a ghost sighting in 30 years,” Rudd’s character tells them (above) over news footage of events in the original film. “New York in the ‘80s—it was like ‘The Walking Dead.’”
When Rudd sat down with Howard in late October to discuss his Golden Globes-nominated Netflix series “Living With Yourself” the actor also opened up about his involvement in “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” and revealed it does indeed acknowledge the events of the 1984 original. Though he didn’t say which “Ghostbusters” stars would be making cameo appearance, reports have surfaced in recent months that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts might all be reprising their roles.
“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” opens July 10.
