Dixie Chicks Drop 'Gaslighter' Music Video and Announce First New Album in 14 Years

The Dixies Chicks returned with a vengeance this week, releasing a new music video for their song “Gaslighter” and announcing a new album was in the works—the country legends’ first in 14 years.

Co-written with and produced by Jack Antonoff, the impassioned tune is reportedly inspired by a real-life breakup involving Dixie Chicks frontwoman and longtime Stern Show celebrity superfan Natalie Maines. The video, directed by Seanne Farmer, is just as fiery as the song’s lyrics. It blends together shots of Maines and her bandmates Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire marching in military outfits with vintage footage of women dancing, fixing tanks, and swimming, among other things.

“Gaslighter” will serve as the trio’s first new album since their Grammy-winning 2006 effort “Taking the Long Way,” but the band has stayed busy since then and made headlines in 2016 with a massive comeback tour. As Stern Show fans may remember, Maines visited the show in 2013 and predicted the Dixie Chicks were poised to make a return, and clearly she didn’t disappoint. In 2006, the band also stopped by the studio to perform an unforgettable cover of the classic Fleetwood Mac tune “Landslide.” Take a listen (below).
