“Walking Dead” bad guy Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays an altogether different type of anti-hero in the trailer for the upcoming drama “Walkaway Joe,” arriving in May.

The acclaimed actor and repeat Stern Show guest plays Cal McCarthy, a pool hustler and wandering loner hiding from the past. The clip follows Cal’s son estranged son Dallas (Julian Feder) as he searches for his father and strikes up an unlikely friendship with and older man named Joe (David Strathairn). When Dallas finally tracks his dad down he gets wrangled into his dangerous lifestyle and eventually winds up facing off against him in a high-stakes game of nine ball.

“You know, Joe, there ain’t no roadmap to being a daddy,” Morgan’s character tells his son (above). “We just do the best we can.”

Morgan, who famously portrays “The Walking Dead’s” bat-wielding villain Negan, last sat down with Howard in 2018 and opened up about everything from breaking his nose on the set of his hit zombie drama to running a candy shop in upstate New York with fellow actor and Stern Show veteran Paul Rudd. Listen to a clip from the interview (below).

“Walkaway Joe” arrives May 8 on digital and on demand.
