AUDIO: Noel Gallagher Drops Unreleased Oasis Demo ‘Don’t Stop’
“As fate would have it I have stumbled across an old demo which I thought had been lost forever,” the prolific rocker tweets
April 30, 2020One of Britain’s most beloved rock bands just released a new song… kind of.
Noel Gallagher has dropped a previously unearthed demo for the Oasis song “Don’t Stop.” The Stern Show veteran, prolific solo artist, and founding Oasis member unleashed the forgotten song along with a message saying he’d rediscovered it while quarantining during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Like the rest of the world I’ve had infinite time to kill lately so I thought I’d FINALLY look and find out what was actually on the HUNDREDS of faceless unmarked cd’s I’ve got lying around in boxes at home. As fate would have it I have stumbled across an old demo which I thought had been lost forever,” Noel tweeted on Wednesday, adding, “Hope everyone is staying safe and trying to ride out the lockdown with the minimum of fuss.”
The rocker went on to explain that he believed only one other version of “Don’t Stop” exists: a recording pulled from an Oasis soundcheck over a decade ago. That soundcheck reportedly took place in Hong Kong just a few months before the band broke up in 2009.
As Stern Show fans will remember, Noel’s brother and longtime Oasis bandmate Liam Gallagher sat down with Howard in 2017, performed solo songs, Oasis hits, and opened up about what it would take for him and his brother to get the band back together. “When we start liking each other, inevitably I think the next step would be to take the band out for a little spin around the block,” Liam told Howard, adding, “I love Oasis, it’s the best thing ever.”
When Noel joined the Stern Show back in 1997, meanwhile, he wowed listeners with acoustic renditions of some of Oasis’s most enduring hits. Watch his “Don’t Look Back in Anger” performance (below).
