VIDEO: Scarlett Johansson Revisits the Past, Wrestles With Villains, and Reminds Florence Pugh to Wear Her Seatbelt in New ‘Black Widow’ Trailer
Stern Show veteran’s standalone Marvel prequel arrives July 9 in theaters and on Disney+
April 5, 2021Stern Show veteran Scarlett Johansson dives out of exploding planes and battles a supervillain midair in the latest trailer for “Black Widow,” arriving July 9 in theaters and on Disney+.
Directed by Cate Shortland, the standalone Marvel prequel follows the titular Avengers assassin Black Widow as she returns to her homeland of Russia and reconnects with her old friends and family: Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour), and Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz).
“You don’t know everything about me,” Johansson says in the trailer (above). “I’ve lived a lot of lives—before I was an Avenger, before I got this family. I made mistakes choosing between what the world wants you to be and who you are.”
The two-minute clip doesn’t reveal too much of the film’s plot, but it does tease a variety of action sequences involving exploding cars, exploding airplanes, and what appears to be an exploding satellite as well as fight scenes with Black Widow’s ostensible villain, Taskmaster. Nevertheless, it’s safety first for Scarlett’s character who in one scene races through a crowded city street while imploring her passengers to buckle up. “Put your seatbelts on,” she says.
“You’re such a mom,” Pugh’s Yelena Belova responds.
When Johansson made her Stern Show debut in 2017, she opened up to Howard all about playing Black Widow in the billion-dollar Marvel franchise and what it was like to share the screen with the Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr. Check out a clip from the interview (below).
“Black Widow” hits theaters and Disney+ on July 9.
