VIDEO: John Cena and Charlize Theron Take on Vin Diesel and His Crew in High-Flying ‘F9’ Trailer
June addition to the “Fast and Furious” franchise co-stars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Dame Helen Mirren, and Cardi B
April 15, 2021Trucks smash through buildings, rocket-powered cars fly through the air, and Dame Helen Mirren leads cops on a high-speed chase in the new trailer for “F9,” the next installment in the “Fast & Furious” franchise.
The story picks up with Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) being pulled out of retirement after a new antagonist attempts to kill him and his crew of car-loving renegades. The assassin, he soon learns, is his own younger brother Jakob (John Cena).
“You always say never turn your back on family, but you turned your back on me,” Cena’s character exclaims in the trailer (above). “Now your little family is in my world.”
Making matters worse, Jakob has teamed up with the cyberterrorist and criminal mastermind Cipher, a familiar foe played by fellow Stern Show veteran Charlize Theron. Together they just may be enough to take down the good guys once and for all.
Directed by Justin Lin, “F9” also features returning cast members Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang, Jordana Brewster, and Nathalie Emmanuel as well as franchise newcomers Anna Sawai, Michael Rooker, and rapper Cardi B.
When Charlize visited the Stern Show most recently in 2020, the Oscar-winning movie star opened up about her hardcore training regimen for films like “The Old Guard,” “Atomic Blonde,” and “Fast & Furious” as well as how the action genre had in recent years evolved for the better. “It makes me feel good about just knowing that we’ve changed that industry as a whole,” she told Howard. “I feel like the genre has definitely had a facelift and I feel like women have been a huge part of that.” Watch a clip from the interview (below).
“F9” speeds into theaters on June 25.
