Michael Che Tackles Religion in Season 2 Trailer for HBO Sketch Comedy Series
“That Damn Michael Che” returns May 26
May 20, 2022Comedian, “Saturday Night Live” standout, and recent Stern Show guest Michael Che returns on Season 2 of HBO Max’s acclaimed sketch-comedy series “That Damned Michael Che,” debuting May 26.
The new trailer begins with fellow Stern Show veteran David Alan Grier giving airplane passengers an unorthodox greeting. “I’m your pilot, Pastor Julian, and I will be delivering the good word throughout the flight,” his character says. “Now, before we go any further I’d like you to turn to your neighbor and say Jesus Take the Wheel!”
All the passengers comply except but one. “Well, the pilot should take the wheel, right?” Che deadpans before the clip cuts to him on a comedy stage cracking wise about the silliness of praying.
Like with the first season, each episode of Che’s show will take an in-depth look at a single topic—like religion. Guest stars on the new batch of episodes include elder comedians like Grier and Tim Meadows as well as at least two of Che’s “Saturday Night Live” contemporaries, Heidi Gardner and his “Weekend Update” co-anchor Colin Jost.
During his Stern Show debut in 2021, Che—who serves as co-head writer on “SNL”—revealed “That Damn Che Show” was also an outlet for him to air aborted “SNL” sketches which never made it on the NBC show. Check out a clip from his sit-down with Howard (below).
