Howard Weighs in on Pauly Shore Playing Richard Simmons in a Movie

Coinciding with the prestigious Sundance Film Festival, a short film starring comedian Pauly Shore as retired fitness guru Richard Simmons recently premiered in Park City, Utah. Since Richard has been on the Stern Show many times, Howard and co-host Robin Quivers had a lot of thoughts on the news that Pauly plans on playing him dramatically in an upcoming feature film.

“I used to go to shows with him and he would be singing to people in the aisles before the show,” Robin recalled Monday morning with a laugh.

“I know Pauly wants a serious Richard, but I never saw evidence of that guy — Richard was always over the top,” Howard noted before recalling the time he invited the star over to his home for a dinner party. “He walks into my house. He picked up the housekeeper and squeezed her … then he grabbed me so hard my ribs hurt.”

Richard was equally rough with the cucumber hors d’oeuvres Howard had prepared. “I served him one and he took it and threw it in the pool and then started tossing cucumbers into the pool,” Howard explained. “That’s when I went into full recluse life — it was a disaster.”

After praising Richard for his kindness, he offered up some free advice. “Richard Simmons should make a movie where he plays Pauly Shore and see if Pauly likes it,” he joked.
