VIDEO: Charli xcx Makes Her Stern Show Debut

Hot on the heels of a “brat summer” which earned her the adulation of TikTok influencers and former presidents alike, superstar and acclaimed recording artist Charli xcx stopped by the SiriusXM studios in Nashville on Wednesday morning to make her greatly anticipated Stern Show debut. Howard and Charli had plenty to discuss, from her “Sweat” concert tour (with Troye Sivan) and critically adored new album “brat” to what Charli xcx and her fiancé, rocker George Daniel, have planned for their wedding. She spoke candidly about a range of subjects — why she dislikes bras, what went down at her star-studded 32^nd birthday party, and how she reacted to a recent “Saturday Night Live” parody — but in the end the conversation came back to her talents as an artist and fiercely unique style of music.

Howard was beyond impressed that any one songwriter could help create hits ranging from “Boom Clap” and “Apple” to the Iggy Azalea track “Fancy” and Icona Pop’s classic banger “I Love It.”

Speaking about her music-making process, Charli the best thing a songwriter can do is trust their gut. “Capturing that kind of lightning-in-a-bottle type feeling is a really cool part of songwriting that’s often disregarded because I think people are nervous to just go with their initial instinct,” she said. “Sometimes it’s just about … that [first] instinct, and it doesn’t even matter if it doesn’t make sense.”

While the music discussion was enlightening, the Grammy-nominated “Guess” singer’s biggest revelation of the morning concerned the King of All Media himself. “Howard, you are brat,” she declared after explaining “brat” is all about “being on the nose, blatant, and kind of confrontational.” “Well done, you passed the test,” she added.
