VIDEO: Comedian Nikki Glaser Chats With Howard After Hosting the 2025 Golden Globes

Award show emcee opens up about jokes she couldn’t tell on the air and feedback she received from celebs like Jon Stewart and Harrison Ford

January 6, 2025

All eyes were on comedian Nikki Glaser Sunday night as she hosted the 82nd Golden Globe Awards — and she did not disappoint. The acclaimed stand-up and repeat Stern Show guest delighted millions of viewers during the broadcast, which honored the best of movies and TV from 2024 while celebrating many of Hollywood’s most beloved entertainers. The award show was undoubtedly a star-studded affair, but in the end it may have been Nikki — who made history as the Golden Globes’ first ever solo female host — who shined the brightest.

Joining the Stern Show on Monday morning, just hours after the Golden Globes wrapped, Glaser opened up about everything from her experience on stage and which afterparty she attended after the broadcast to the months of hard work that went into crafting her opening monologue. The 10-minute-long routine, which received thunderous applause from the A-listers in attendance and has already been viewed by over 2 million people on YouTube, was brimming with jokes about everything from movie star Timothée Chalamet’s unique name (and how comedian Adam Sandler might enjoy pronouncing it) to Hollywood’s obsession with plastic surgery. Chatting with Howard, Glaser revealed that even some of her funniest monologue jokes didn’t make the cut, but thankfully for Stern Show listeners the comedian was happy to share them for the very first time on the air.

“Some of these we’d get pitched and we were like, ‘We can’t say that on TV,’ … So I’d go, ‘Move it to “The Stern File.” We can do them on Stern,’” she told Howard before sharing a sizzling string of previously unheard wisecracks, including one aimed at the cast of the Golden Globe-nominated series “Only Murders in the Building”: “I think it’s so cool that legends like Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Meryl Streep are still at it,” Nikki began. “It just goes to show you that you are never too old to still need money.”

Striking the right balance between funny and tasteful is no easy feat, but fans, critics, and celebrities like Jon Stewart and Harrison Ford agreed that Glaser absolutely nailed it. So naturally, Howard was curious if producers had already invited her back to host next year. “Have they already asked you to do it again?” he asked.

“They haven’t asked me formally. There’s been some chatter about it … I can’t imagine they wouldn’t,” Nikki responded.

“It’s hard to find people to do these shows,” she continued. “A lot of people [turn it down]. It’s a tough gig … But the opportunity is so immense, [and] I would never be able to live with myself if I turned something down because I was scared of bombing … If you work hard enough you won’t.”
