Comedian returns to the Stern Show ahead of new Netflix comedy, “Kinda Pregnant”
January 29, 2025Celebrated comedian Amy Schumer is always excited to sit down with Howard but on Wednesday morning the acclaimed standup, writer, actress, producer, and longtime Stern Show guest was even more enthusiastic than usual as she opened up about her brand-new film “Kinda Pregnant,” debuting next week on Netflix. She stars opposite Will Forte and Damon Wayans Jr. in the comedy, which sees her character don a fake belly in the hopes of convincing her friends she’s pregnant. It’s a wild premise to be sure, but Schumer is no stranger to taking big swings with projects and knocking them out of the park. She’s proven herself repeatedly over the years, on both the big screen — 2015’s “Trainwreck” brought in $140 million at the box office — and TV, where she won an Emmy for “Inside Amy Schumer” and earned critical acclaim with her semi-autobiographical dramedy “Life & Beth.” Now, she has a chance to make her mark on the world’s most popular streaming service.
“This is the one,” Schumer told Howard of her new Netflix flick. “I think this is as funny as ‘Trainwreck.’ I think it’s gonna be a hit.”
Working on “Kinda Pregnant” proved to be a dream come true for Amy, as it gave her a chance to collaborate with legendary funnyman turned comedy mogul Adam Sandler, whose company Happy Madison produced the project. “Adam is very hands on,” she said of Sandler’s approach as a producer. “He’s looking at scripts, he’s looking at dailies — I was impressed.”

One of the film’s most oft-discussed jokes takes lighthearted aim at the Kardashian family’s rise to fame and fortune, but Schumer — a credited cowriter on “Kinda Pregnant” — told listeners she’d run the zinger by her friend Kim first. “I called Kim Kardashian. I said, ‘I want to make this joke … I asked if she would mind, and she didn’t mind,’” Amy recalled. “How cool is she? She’s like, ‘Yeah, do the one about my dad defending a murderer.’ She was that chill.”
Kim K. wasn’t Amy’s only A-list friend who came up in conversation on Wednesday. Schumer also spoke candidly about her friendship with pop superstar Madonna, and how she’s helped the “Material Girl” work out some material for the standup stage. “She’s funny. She’s got jokes. She’s got things to say … She doesn’t have to get over stage fright,” Amy said of Madonna. “She’s got a jump on the game.”
