Howard Pays Beautiful Tribute to Maya Angelou

Poetry icon passed recently at the age of 86

June 2, 2014

Like the rest of America, Howard was upset by the death of poetry icon Dr. Maya Angelou at the tender age of eighty-six. He even prepared a few words to honor her, since what the world needs at moments like this is poetry.

GOODBYE MAYA

Maya. MY – ya.

Miss you/Ms. You/Miss Ms. Maya

God and you and I and she and we

Oprah … Gayle … Queen Latifah … Jackee Harry from 227

We all speak your name

God will welcome you

Yes … SHE … will

Thank you

Howard was also fascinated to read that Dr. Angelou was a single mother who worked in a strip club, before she hit the literary jackpot with her memoir ‘I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings’. (Incidentally, nobody in the studio or the office knew why the caged bird sings)

Howard imagined Dr. Angelou as a stripper, imagining that there was a lot of talking, but she probably did ‘use her knee’.

If there is a silver-lining to this loss, it’s for our own Robin Quivers. Something tells us a seat opened up at Oprah’s Legends Ball!
