Billy Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins Visit the Stern Show

Smashing Pumpkins stopped by the studio on Tuesday and rocked out live on the air. Frontman Billy Corgan also regaled Howard and listeners with discussions ranging from the band’s early days in the ’90s to the current state of rock ‘n’ roll. Check out some of the highlights from the interview (below).

Foo Fighters

Billy was surprised that Courtney Love recently made up with former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl. Billy felt Dave was a great musician but that Foo Fighters had not “evolved” since their earliest days. He said he puts his life on the line to make new and different music.

Celine Dion

The Pumpkins were up for a bunch of Grammy Awards one year and they didn’t win – it finally got down to album of the year and Celine Dion took home the prize. Billy recalled she brought twelve producers onstage and proceeded to thank “the little people.”

The Pumpkins are still going strong, even if Billy is the last original member, and they performed three great songs for the Stern Show: a cover of David Bowie’s “Fame,” their classic “Zero,” and a brand new track “One and All (We Are)” from their new album “Monuments to an Elegy,” which you should check out.
