Sal ‘The Stockbroker’ Governale Celebrates 20 Years on the Stern Show
Everyone's favorite prank caller reaches a milestone anniversary!
Maybe the first time you heard him, he was calling the Stern Show Executive Producer Gary Dell’Abate a “Horse Tooth Jackass” … Or maybe that first time you didn’t even realize who he was considering the vast library of prank calls he’s delivered. But one way or another, after 20 years of service, we have all come to realize the comedic genius of Sal “The Stockbroker” Governale whether we’re laughing with him or at him. And that’s why we’re celebrating his career on Sternthology all week long!
Despite the fact that he didn’t “win John’s job,” Sal was brought on-staff alongside the competition’s official champion Richard Christy back in 2004 after years of making a name for himself on the phone lines — and as the world has witnessed, there could not have been a better pair for the job.
“We’re going to celebrate his greatest fuck-ups, his greatest defeats, his greatest successes,” Howard told listeners.
For everything from his infamous apology tape to the time he lost his cock (… sort of) and everything in between, tune in to Sternthology on Howard 101 all week.
And to kick things off, here is Gary Dell’Abate himself roasting Sal live on the show!
Schedule:
Day 1: The Early Years—Gary Bashing
Tune in to hear the first time Sal ever came into the studio to play his “Horse Tooth Jackass” calls, his Baba Booey Christmas album, the classic “Mouth Wide Open” parody” and the time Gary got a bit of revenge!
Day 2: The Early Years—A Contributor Is Born
In the late ’90s you could turn on the Stern Show on any given day and hear Sal attempting a prank call on Howard (cue a Garth Brooks sex story). Moreover, by the early 2000s Sal was interacting with other members of the Wack Pack, dressing up as “Ta Ta Toothy,” and in 2003 even got invited to sit in on the news. Tune in today for some of these great early appearances and calls.
Day 3: Win John’s Job Contest
Beginning in May of 2004 and culminating with a winner (and runner-up) in July of 2004, the Win Job’s John Contest culled the wackiest talent from the bunch and gave listeners the pleasure of hearing Richard Christy — the contest’s official champion — and Sal Governale join the show as full-time staff members. Listen back to the contest today!
Day 4: Sal Joins The Staff
In the wake of getting hired, Sal wasted no time in finding a few new subjects to torture.
Hear about Howard’s dinner with Richard and Sal, Jack and Rod’s first call, the birth of the “Chinese Food Confusion” call, and some of Sal’s rejected bits!
Day 5: Sal’s Stunts
From his infamous “pouch” to his meeting with Krissy the Foot Fetish Model and the times he’s been hypnotized in the studio, Sal has been at the forefront of too many stunts to count on the Stern Show. Hear some of the greats today!
