Howard Remembers Keith Emerson
The music legend passed away at age 71.
Keith Emerson — famed keyboardist of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer — died Friday as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was 71.
“I was an Emerson, Lake and Palmer fan,” Howard told Robin, remembering how he used to come into New York City just to see them perform at venues like the Beacon and the Fillmore.
Howard played some clips of songs like “Lucky Man” and “Karn Evil #9” that became popular for the band while he paid tribute to Emerson’s showmanship – like when he would stab a key on his piano with a knife to hold the note.
Fred chimed in that they, too, have not been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Norris, a musician himself, also noted that the Rock Hall of Fame doesn’t seem to honor any bands in the progressive rock genre – except maybe Rush.
