Adam Levine Talks What Goes on Behind the Scenes at ‘The Voice’
From Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton dating to the time he caught Alicia Keys wearing makeup
Now in his 12th season on “The Voice,” Adam Levine told Howard on Wednesday that he’s still having fun as a coach on the NBC reality series and gets along great with all of his fellow A-list judges. His costar Alicia Keys is somewhat new to the spinning chairs and Adam had nothing but nice things to say about her, although she definitely had something to say to him after he caught her putting on makeup backstage.
“She was putting on a little bit of makeup,” Adam explained. Keys famously goes without any makeup most of the time, a move she has said helped her better understand herself. When Adam asked why she was wearing makeup that day, Alicia playfully replied, “I do what the fuck I want!”
Howard also asked Adam what’s it’s been like on the set of “The Voice” since Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton went public with their romance.
“If you had told me that Blake Shelton would be with Gwen Stefani, I would have told you ‘you’re out of your fucking mind’ but it’s so wrong that it’s right,” Adam said. “I don’t think that you can really control those types of matters of the heart. I think they found each other at a really interesting time in their lives and I see it as a beautiful thing.”
Howard assumed a good looking guy like Adam must get hit on by a lot of the show’s contestants but according to Levine, no one in “The Voice’s” six-year history has ever tried to make a move on him. As for why one of the winners of “The Voice” has yet to become a megastar, Adam blamed the record label for mishandling talent during his 2015 visit to the Stern Show. On Wednesday, he again expressed his disappointment in the label, but also said he’s hopeful a change is going to come.
“I think that it’s a combination of the label dropping the ball and also something that is impossible to put your finger on, which I don’t believe is anybody’s fault,” Adam said. “I’m still optimistic that we can do it, to be honest with you. We can launch somebody.”
